QUICKSTART-GADGET 1.94
Vorstellung für Foren und Website-Boards

DEUTSCH

ENGLISH

QuickStart-Gadget is a portable Windows launcher for folders, applications, files and shortcuts. Targets are assigned to configurable tiles and opened with one click. A dedicated orange app icon is embedded in the application and setup. Tile size is adjustable from 72 to 128 pixels.

The documentation image shows a fully populated QuickStart Dock with subgrid markers, running indicator, note and recycle-bin tiles, and the orange accent line.

The interface no longer has a title bar. A small gear sits at the top of the left control rail and the close button at the bottom. Drag the free area between them to move the gadget. Releasing it near any of the four screen edges docks it there. A checkbox controls whether it later retracts to a narrow activation strip or remains fully visible. While hidden, the entire assigned edge is active, so touching it anywhere reveals the gadget in the foreground. Double-clicking the free control rail collapses or restores the tile area.

Folders, applications, files and LNK shortcuts can be dropped directly onto tiles. A compact 10-pixel dot between icon and label marks running applications. Its colour is freely selectable; a new configuration initially uses the Windows accent colour. QuickStart-Gadget can optionally draw a matching 2-pixel line at the inner dock edge, with 20 percent transparency and softly fading ends. Clicking an already running app tile restores and activates its existing window instead of starting a second process. Folders, notes, macros and other non-app targets show no running dot.

For LNK files, either the shortcut or its resolved target can be stored. Dropping a PNG or ICO replaces only the icon. Tiles can be reordered while custom icons remain reliably assigned, and the current application version appears at the upper right. Subgrid tiles can be sorted alphabetically by label with the A-Z button; unassigned slots are always placed last. Other functions include macros, recycle-bin tiles, and persistent note tiles. Clicking a note opens it directly above the pressed tile for editing. PASTE inserts clipboard text at the cursor or selection, COPY uses selected text or the complete note, and SAVE stores changes permanently. Optionally, the dock automatically follows the active virtual desktop after switching desktops or the clicked subgrid hides and closes itself after its tile action completes. The transparency mode is selectable: keep the previous semi-transparent whole window, or make only the dock background transparent while icons and text remain fully opaque.

Configuration and prepared icons remain portable beside the application in QuickStart-Gadget.ini and Data\Icons. A per-user setup is also provided. It detects updates and preserves configuration and custom icons. The configuration can optionally register QuickStart-Gadget for the current user's Windows startup. It always uses the EXE that is actually running and requires no administrator rights. Global per-user single-instance protection prevents duplicate starts and activates the running instance instead. Portable mode remains fully usable. Windows 10 or Windows 11 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 are required.
